A touch of Impressionism

Feb 1 - Mar 1, 2022
لمحة عامة

"For an impressionist to paint from nature is not to paint the subject, but to realize sensations."

- Paul Cezanne

Bailly Gallery pays homage to the impressionist movement, a movement as fleeting as the light effects it sought to capture. A powerful art movement that gave way to other emblematic art movements. What followed was a succession of varied movements and styles, that are the core of modern art.

These movements are characterised by the use of relatively small, thin, broken and yet visible brush strokes, that barely convey forms, pure unblended colours, and an emphasis on the effects of light. The use of loose brushwork gives an effect of spontaneity and effortlessness, a style that appears casual style, but the compositions are nonetheless often carefully constructed.

The online exhibition will include masterpieces by the hand of Auguste Rodin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Georges Seurat or Alfred Sisley. These modern artists rebelled against classical subject matter and embraced modernity, desiring to create works that reflected the modern world in which they lived.
