Biography
Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893–1983) was a Catalan artist celebrated for his innovative contributions to painting, sculpture, and ceramics. Born on April 20, 1893, in Barcelona, Spain, Miró's early exposure to art began at the age of seven. Despite enrolling in business school at fourteen, he concurrently attended La Lonja's Escuela Superior de Artes Industriales y Bellas Artes in Barcelona. After a brief stint as a clerk, a nervous breakdown prompted him to fully commit to his artistic pursuits, leading him to study at Francesc Galí's Escola d'Art from 1912 to 1915.

In 1920, Miró moved to Paris, immersing himself in the avant-garde community while maintaining strong ties to Catalonia. His work is often associated with Surrealism, characterized by a unique blend of abstract art and surrealist fantasy. Miró's mature style evolved from the tension between his poetic impulse and his vision of the harshness of modern life.

Bailly Gallery is honored to feature several of Miró's works, including "L'Equilibriste" (1969), a bronze sculpture exemplifying his venture into three-dimensional art. This piece reflects Miró's exploration of form and balance, capturing the whimsical essence characteristic of his style.
