LUCIO FONTANA (1899-1968)
Lucio Fontana is an Italian painter and sculptor, founder of the spatial movement.
He is famous for his "empty" or teared paintings, translating his ceaseless fight : art can be a concept, and art is about the capacity to decline this concept.
Between 1920 and 1940, he becomes one of the the most innovative sculptors, collaborating with avant-gardist architects, in search of new forms by using different materials as ceramic, bronze, reinforced concrete or phosphorescent plastic.
In 1946, he publishes the "White Manifesto" where he formulates his theories about his artistic research, what brings him one year later to the creation of the group: Spazialismo.
