Le port d'Anvers

What happens when two brilliant artists, childhood friends, set on a journey together? Le Port d’Anvers by Othon Friesz holds the answer.
In 1906, Friesz, along with his friend Georges Braque, went on holiday together to Antwerp, where they rented a small studio on a balcony, on which they would sit and experiment with artistic techniques, capturing vibrant seascapes with sailboats dancing on the Northern Sea. And the bold use of pure color and dynamic composition captured the essence of fauvism, a movement they were both part of. And though they painted at the exact same time, the same subjects, their unique sensitivity and talent can be distinguished. Le Port d'Anvers is a beautiful paysage, but also a tale of artistic growth and beautiful friendship. If you'd like to learn more about this work, take a look at our website,
