Maison du peintre au Cannet

Could a landscape hold a hidden message? Discover "The Story Behind : Pierre Bonnard, Maison du Peintre au Cannet"

Capturing a scene today is easy. Imagine capturing not just any scene, but an emotion. French artist Pierre Bonnard used to venture into the wilderness and then come back to his studio and paint not what he saw, but what he felt. In 1940, Bonnard moved out of Paris and to the south of France, to his house in Cannet. And in 1942, he created our painting, La Maison du Peintre à Cannet, which was a gift to his dear friend, Nana Winding Renoir. Using an intense palette, he depicted his house nestled in lush vegetation and bathed in warm tones of sunlight. By applying simple color, he structured his works and broke away from traditional perspective to focus essentially on emotions. And what emotions were they? That was for Nana Winding Renoir, and now for you to decipher. If you'd like to learn more about this work, take a look at our website, baillygallery.com.
