Biography
Henri Laurens was born the 18th February 1885 in Paris. He was a sculptor, a painter and a draftsman. He caught tuberculosis which affects him at the age of 17, he is amputated of a leg seven years later.
At first stone-cutter, he becomes a craftsman sculptor. In 1899, he begins to study drawing. We can perceives in his work the influence of Auguste Rodin.
Afterward, he is attracted by the artists of Montparnasse, and from 1911, he begins to sculpture in the Cubist style. Friend of Juan Gris and Picasso, who will recognise his influence, he also influences George Braque who considers him as a brother.
